Bayern Munich's goalkeeper will lead out Germany against Mexico, meaning Ter Stegen will have to make do with a place amongst the substitutes

Manuel Neuer starting is the big news for Germany ahead their World Cup opener versus Mexico. The Bayern Munich stopper hasn't played for his club since the 16th September 2017 but Joachim Low has decided he's ready now, meaning that Marc-Andre ter Stegen drops to the bench.

As for Mexico's team, Sevilla's Miguel Layun is also handed a start.

Germany: Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Marvin Plattenhardt; Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos; Thomas Müller, Mesut Özil, Julian Draxler, Marco Reus; and Timo Werner.

México: Guillermo Ochoa; Carlos Salcedo, Hugo Ayala, Héctor Moreno, Jesús Gallardo; Héctor Herrera, Andrés Guardado; Miguel Layún, Carlos Vela, Hirving Lozano; and 'Chicharito' Hernández.
