Memphis Depay looks likely to continue staying at Barça

Memphis Depay, it seems, will be staying at FC Barcelona. As SPORT has been able to confirm, the player has been calm and clear in these last days of the market.

Although he has not played the last two league games with Barça, Memphis knew continuing was the best option after the Juventus deal broke down and is unlikely to change his position.

A turnaround may come if a Premier League club, barring Manchester United or Chelsea, were to make a lucrative offer in the final hours of the market. Memphis is still hearing proposals, but will only leave if he receives a convincing offer.

The likely departure of Aubameyang and the loan of Abde leaves Memphis as the sixth striker, which Xavi is happy with, as it means he has double cover for the three attacking positions.

Lewandowski, Dembélé, Raphinha, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and Memphis would be his options in a season loaded with games.

Xavi would count on Memphis if he stays, unlike Braithwaite, and he could enter the rotation. His versatility allows him to play in any of the attacking positions, a fact that the coach is well aware of.

Memphis's place for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 is also in no danger as he is the undisputed first-choice striker for Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman will not listen to proposals from lesser clubs, especially since his contract expires in a year and he can leave freely after that.
