Andre Onana is a player Barcelona have on the table in the case that the transfer market takes a twist in the summer.
The club have information that suggests he would return to the club and his qualities fit perfectly with the profile of goalkeeper the club would be looking for.
Onana, 24, has proven himself a top-level keeper at Ajax and Barça have followed his progress ever since he left Camp Nou for Amsterdam.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has a contract with Barça until 2022 so there's no urgency but there is uncertainty as talks over a renewal run into complications.
Talks have started but they haven't advanced, although both parties want to find an agreement and Ter Stegen has emerged as one of the key players in recent years.
Barça understand that his performances deserve a wage increase but they cannot promise too much right now due to the financial situation and the unknown repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Barça plan to place Neto on the transfer market and, if Iñaki Peña is out on loan, they would then need someone new to challenge Ter Stegen. Neto's performances in big matches -- the derby vs. Espanyol and the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia -- was not up to standard.
Onana, due to his age and potential, is seen as a goalkeeper who could come in as a more suitable No.2, with the possibility of replacing Ter Stegen should the German choose to leave.
Onana has a good reputation and Ajax are aware he doesn't want to extend beyond the expiry of his 2022 contract. He's worth around 40 million euros, although the Dutch side would negotiate.
Barça have youngsters, like Riqui Puig, for example, who Ajax like, while Chelsea and Tottenham have also been linked with Onanna. The former could look to sell Kepa at the end of the season.
Onana joined Barça in 2010 aged 14 from the Samuel Eto'o Foundation. He was at Las Masia until 2016, when he moved to Ajax.
