Barcelona hopeful of selling Junior Firpo to Southampton or West Ham

Junior Firpo: Competition with Alba? You never get used to being a sub / | sport

Two Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in signing the left-back

Barcelona need to reduce the size of their squad and their wage bill at the same time as bringing in money through player sales before the end of the month.

The transfer market is dead in general but the club are hopeful of being able to sell someone before June 30. There is serious hope that Junior Firpo could leave for the Premier League. West Ham and Southampton have been talking with Barça for days to try and reach an agreement and they're getting there.

There's a lot of interest in Junior, a talented left-back who hasn't taken off at Barça. There's also several clubs in Italy keen on him, although they want to take him on loan with an option to buy. Barça have closed that door for now because they want a permanent deal.

In two years and under three different coaches, Junior's not had many chances at Barça, who are now ready to move him on for at 16 million euros plus bonuses. And it seems there are teams ready to pay that amount.

Barça want to restructure the left-hand side and it also remains to be seen what happens with Jordi Alba. His attacking output has been good but he commands a big wage and Barça wouldn't stand in his way if a good offer arrived for everyone involved. The Blaugrana are monitoring the market for possible left-backs, too.
