Luis Suarez has always spoken his mind when he talked to the media in Uruguay. He spoke on Fox Sports about various topics ahead of the Copa America.

His knee surgery: “I took the operation because I could not go longer without it, not to arrive at the Copa America on time. After the World Cup I had the cartilage worn down. If I hadn’t taken care of my knee I wouldn’t have arrived at the Copa del Rey.”

Messi: “He’s a phenomenon, a team-mate and a friend. Many go out to criticise him and he never says ‘hey’, to a coach or another player.”

Copa America: “We have the players to fight for the cup. We’re candidates and all the national teams have respect for Uruguay, the country with the most Copas. Obviously Argentina are candidates because they have the best player in the world (Messi).”

Barca signing him after Chiellini bite: “I cried for an entire day when Barca called me, I’ll always be grateful to Barca.”
