According to L'Équipe, the centre back will become the club's third free signing of the summer after Wijnaldum and Donnarumma

According to a report in French newspaper L'Équipe, the Spanish defender looks set to become the latest reinforcement to PSG's backline.

The ex-captain of Real Madrid had initially asked for a two-year deal, with the Paris-based club offering a one-year contract with the option of a further year. The length of the contract was the most significant issue in the negotiations between the two parties.

Ramos' arrival is subject to him passing a medical exam. According to the French newspaper, this is due to take place on Wednesday in Paris. The assessments will seek to ascertain the physical condition of the Spanish international, who underwent surgery on his left knee in February.

His injury problems in the second half of the season prevented him from featuring for Real Madrid in the final run-in in the league, and also led to him not being called up to represent Spain in Euro 2020. If he passes the medical and signs the contract, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino will have three centre backs who he can count on, with Sergio Ramos joining Brazilian international Marquinhos and French centre back Presnel Kimpembe, strengthening this key position in the back line.

Despite this, Sergio Ramos is also capable of playing at right back and in defensive midfield. According to L'Équipe, he will also chip in with goals - particularly from set pieces - and will bring leadership to the squad, making the Camas-born defender an "XXL signing".

Sergio Ramos, aged 35, is not the only player the wrong side of thirty to be signed by the French club. They have also previously signed Dani Alves, David Beckham and Gianluigi Buffon at 34, 37 and 40 years of age respectively.

Following the arrival of the Dutch centre midfielder Georginio Wijaldum, already announced, and Italian goalkeeper Gianluihi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos is set to become the third player to arrive at PSG on a free transfer this window.
