With Matthijs de Ligt on course to join Juve, it might open the door for Bonucci to make the switch to PSG

PSG are trying to prove themselves as the best place for young talent to develop but it isn't working. They tried to lure Matthijs de Ligt to Paris but were unsuccessful. However, if de Ligt ends up at Juventus, it might actually open the door to a new signing for Thomas Tuchel's men.

Whilst youngsters, on the whole, might not be tempted by PSG's riches, the same can't be said of veterans. They want to add a few more titles to their career before calling it a day and in Paris they'll be able to do that. The option they are considering right now is Leonardo Bonucci.

With de Ligt on the verge of signing for Juventus, it puts Bonucci's starting role under threat. He might see the chance to land a huge contract with PSG as the perfect way to end his playing days, a la Gianluigi Buffon.

According to ‘La Gazzeta dello Sport’, PSG have spoken to the player's agent to see whether a move to Paris would be of interest. That's all the contact there's been so far.

At 32, Bonucci still has plenty of years left in him at the top level but he knows he might never get an offer as good as right now. Plus he wouldn't want to waste 12-24 months of that sat on the bench behind de Ligt.

AN IMPORTANT DECISION

PSG are yet to contact Juventus directly over a transfer but are confident an agreement could be reached seeing as Bonucci has already spent a year at rivals Milan.

However whilst Juve might be open to a move, that disappointing experience away from the 'Old Lady' might force Bonucci to have second thoughts.

What is clear is that whilst losing out on de Ligt will hurt PSG, it could see them land a more proven defender this summer instead.
