PSG director Leonardo: No one can pay Neymar or Kylian Mbappe

Neymar and Mbappe are both moving into the final year of their deals in the summer

The interview with Leonardo, the Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, in France Football threw up a number of big headlines relating to the transfer window.

After confirming the club were following the Lionel Messi case, hopeful of signing the Barcelona forward if he leaves Camp Nou for free in the summer, he also spoke about PSG stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Both Neymar and Mbappe are out of contract in 2022 and have yet to sign new deals.

"Choose between Neymar or Mbappe for next season? It's true it's a complicated situation but if PSG don't have the measures to keep their two stars, what team does have the financial measures to pay them? I don't think any team," Leonardo told France Football.

With those comments, Leonardo confirmed that there is no team capable of assuming the salaries paid to two of the game's biggest earners at the moment.

On the question of whether he could reunite Neymar with Messi at PSG, as the Brazilian wished, Leonardo warned against making decisions based on players' whims.

"If we start to think about the team in function of what the players want, we run the risk of seeming like a team of friends that lacks a competitive streak. What we want is to strengthen the team to make it as competitive as possible," he added.
