The Ligue 1 club have confirmed the appointment of the Frenchman

It is now official. Thierry Henry has returned home. The Frenchman has been confirmed as the new coach of Monaco following the sacking of Leonardo Jardim.

The Ligue 1 side are without a win in 10 games, drawing three and losing seven, which reveals the scale of the task facing Henry.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona forward will take Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao, the U23 coach at Benfica, and Patrick Kwame Ampadu, Arsenal's academy manager with him.

Henry returns to Monaco, where he was a player between 1993 and 199, playing 141 times and scoring 28 goals for the first team.

While there, the former France international won the league in 1997. Until now, he has been working with the Belgium national team as Roberto Martinez's No.2.

"It seems like fate that I will begin my managerial career here," said Henry. "Monaco will always be close to my hear and I'm incredibly excited to be given this opportunity but now the hard work must begin."
