Tension has raised between the two superstars in recent weeks, not helped by the fact Neymar criticised PSG's youngsters for the team's underwhelming campaign

There's a war on the horizon at PSG. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the two biggest stars on the French champions books, were viewed as close friends up until the last few weeks. Both on and off the pitch that relationship has hit rocky ground and there's a serious concern the club isn't big enough for the both of them.

The bad feeling began after PSG lost the French Cup final. Neymar blamed the team's youngsters and said they needed to work harder and talk less. Mbappe felt this was an attack aimed at him. The fact that Neymar wasn't available for the biggest matches, either due to injury or suspension, only further fuels the fire. Mbappe was the one who performed out on the pitch at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

Money is another factor. Neymar arrived as the top dog and it was widely accepted he would earn more than anyone else. However, Mbappe's rise and leadership means he now wants a contract which represents his worth to the side. When he collected an award recently he hinted at wanting more responsibility and opened the door to leaving PSG if that didn't happen.

That powerplay upset Neymar who feels his position and role is being brought into question.

This tension might play into the hands of Real Madrid. Florentino Perez would love to add whoever loses he battle to be PSG's number one. Right now they have to wait and see how this plays out.
