The Uruguayan has taken Ibrahimovic's record

His goal against Montpellier was his 157th for PSG

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani opened the scoring as Paris Saint-Germain beat Montpellier on Saturday, becoming the top goalscorer in the club's history.

Cavani's goal after 11 minutes was his 157th for the French club, moving him one clear of Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

PSG signed Cavani, who will turn 31 next month, from Napoli in 2013 and he has gone on to play 227 games for the Ligue 1 leaders.

In total, he has scored 109 league goals, 26 in the Champions League, nine in the French Cup, 12 in the French League Cup and one in the French Super Cup.

Ibrahimovic had previously held the record at PSG with 156 goals in 180 games, a record he had taken from Pauleta, who scored 176 in 109.

Cavani drew level with the Scandinavian frontman in PSG's win against Dijon but missed the chance to break the record in that game when Neymar, to whistles from the home supporters at the Parc des Princes, took a penalty one by the Uruguay international.
