Alavés suffered a home defeat against Villarreal at Estadio de Mendizorroza on Saturday. Alavés wanted to continue adding points after winning away by a 0-1 victory against Levante while Villarreal lost by a result of 1-2 in the previous match against Espanyol. At the moment, Alavés and Villarreal occupy position 14th (23 points) and 7th (31 points) respectively after playing a total of 21 matches.
Good start of the game for Villarreal, thanks to a goal from Carlos Bacca 10 minutes in the game, finalising the first half with a 0-1.
Alavés took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Joselu in the 80th minute. Villarreal took the lead thanks to a goal from Fer Nino in the 89th minute just before the end of the second half to establish the 1-2, finalising the game with a 1-2.
At the end of the match, both teams made 3 substitutions each. For Alavés Borja Sainz, Burgui and Oliver Burke came on for Luis Rioja, Aleix Vidal and Martin Aguirregabiria, while Villarreal brought on Xavier Quintilla, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Fer Nino to replace Alberto Moreno, Santi Cazorla and Carlos Bacca.
The referee booked Rodrigo Ely and Ruben Duarte from Alavés, while for Villarreal Xavier Quintilla saw a yellow card as well.
Alavés will play against Sevilla at away stadium, while Villarreal will face Osasuna at home stadium.
