Eduardo Coudet's squad were defeated away by Valencia at the Mestalla on Saturday

Valencia beats Celta 2-0 on Saturday at the Mestalla. Valencia arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Real Madrid. Celta Vigo were able to continue their winning streak after a 3-1 win against Elche in their last match. After today's result, Valencia are in 12th place, with 27 points from 24 matches, while Celta Vigo sit in 10th, with 29 points from 24.

After an uneventful first half, Valencia continued to pile on the pressure the second half and were rewarded, following a goal from Manu Vallejo in the 90th minute. Later, Valencia scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Kevin Gameiro in the 90th minute just before the final whistle, which sealed the victory for Valencia.

Both managers made full use of their substitutions. For Valencia Kevin Gameiro, Manu Vallejo and Ferro came on for Alex Blanco, Uros Racic and Kang In Lee, while Celta brought on Ivan Villar, Joseph Aidoo and Fran Beltran to replace Facundo Ferreyra, Augusto Solari and Nolito.

The referee booked Kang In Lee and Jose Luis Gaya from Valencia. Celta Vigo had the worst of it though, with Nolito, Santi Mina and Renato Tapia seeing yellow, and Ruben Blanco then sent off with a red.

Valencia will next play Getafe away, with Celta Vigo facing Real Valladolid at home.
