Travelling Celta secure 4-2 win against Villarreal

Celta Vigo beat Villarreal with a thumping 4-2 victory on Sunday at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Both Villarreal and Celta arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Villarreal had been hopeful of continuing their run, following a 1-0 victory against Getafe whilst Celta were coming from consecutive wins against Levante and Osasuna. As the table looks today, Villarreal and Celta are 6th, (52 points) and 8th, (47 points), in the league respectively, after 35 matches.

Celta started strongly in the first half, with Santi Mina giving The Sky Blues the lead, 19 minutes in. However, their lead didn't last for long, Moi Gomez producing an equaliser, 25 minutes in, bringing The Yellow Submarine level. However, each side looked hungry to win and Celta then found the back of the net, on 34 minutes thanks to Santi Mina, taking the score to 2-1. However they weren't finished yet and Brais Mendez made it 3-1 just before half-time. The score at half time was 1-3.

Celta continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Augusto Solari finding the net, on 57 minutes. Villarreal in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Gerard Moreno, leaving the final score at 4-2.

For Villarreal, Alberto Moreno, Gerard Moreno, Francis Coquelin, Daniel Raba and Paco Alcacer, came on for Pervis Estupinan, Etienne Capoue, Moi Gomez, Dani Parejo and Fer Nino. Celta brought on Kevin Vazquez, Joseph Aidoo, Jordan William Holsgrove and Facundo Ferreyra, to replace Augusto Solari, Hugo Mallo, Nolito and Santi Mina.

Villarreal and Celta played a rough game where the referee sanctioned Villarreal with yellow cards to Pervis Estupinan, Sergio Asenjo and Yeremi Pino and with red card to Geronimo Rulli and Mario Gaspar, while from Celta Nestor Araujo and Facundo Ferreyra were booked and red to Facundo Ferreyra (2 yellow cards).

Villarreal will next travel to Real Valladolid, while Celta will face Getafe at home.
