Gameiro scores La Liga's second quickest hat-trick as Atletico win

The Frenchman stole the show as a second half substitute in a 4-1 win against Sporting Gijon

Kevin Gameiro scored the fourth hat-trick of his career as Atletico Madrid beat Sporting Gijon 4-1 on Saturday.

The French striker, a second half substitute, came close to breaking a league record with his three goals coming in just four minutes and 44 seconds, two seconds quicker than it took David Villa to score a treble for Valencia against Athletic in 2006. However, he couldn't better Bebeto.

Brazilian Bebeto's hat-trick in 1995 -- when he scored four against Albacete -- came in just over three minutes for Deportivo La Coruna, with his fourth goal arriving just three minutes after that.

Yannick Carrasco had given Atletico the lead at El Molinon but relegation-threatened Sporting hit back through Sergio Alvarez.

The game was level when Gameiro came on in the 62nd minute, replacing Angel Correa.

Gameiro’s first goal came in the 80th minute and his second, almost immediately after, in the 81st minute. With Atletico 3-1 up and cruising, he then completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute.
