Espanyol are still bottom of the league even after their impressive 2-2 draw at Sevilla on Sunday.

They let in a late goal when Suso drilled home in the 80th minute which cost them two points, but held on as the hosts pushed for a winner in the final stages.

Lucas Ocampos headed in the opener but Adri Embarba’s free-kick levelled the scores, a low effort into the bottom corner.

Wu Lei sent Espanyol ahead but Victor Sanchez was dismissed after two yellow cards, and Suso netted the equaliser.

The draw leaves Sevilla fifth, on 40 points from 24 games. Espanyol are bottom, joint on 19 points with Leganes who drew with Real Betis.

“It wasn’t easy to come to the Sanchez Pizjuan against a wounded side and more so after Ocampo’s goal after 15 minutes,” said Abelardo. “We were comfortable playing eleven against eleven.”
