Sevilla 1-1 Athletic Bilbao: Sampaoli draws on re-debut
The Argentine coach is back at Sevilla and started off with a point
Jorge Sampaoli’s second era in charge of Sevilla started with a 1-1 home draw against Athletic Bilbao.
Ernesto Valverde’s side started the season in fine form and were good value for a point, although Sevilla dominated in the opening stages.
Oliver Torres put them ahead after four minutes and Papu Gomez went close.
However Mikel Vesga equalised for the Basques with a powerful low strike from outside the area.
“It was a new start with the new coach. The team made a tremendous effort,” said Torres. “I know that the team will come out better. It’s a totally new idea, we have to follow his ideas and concepts. The commitment is intact and we will continue. We each have to add what we can for Sevilla to be back where it deserves to be.”
