Celta Vigo fell to an away defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on Thursday. Real were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-1 to Seville. Celta, on the other hand, had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Cádiz. After today's result, Real are in 5th place on the table and has 50 points while Celta sit in 12th with 38 points after 31 matches.
Celta started strongly in the first half, thanks to Hugo Mallo giving The Sky Blues the lead at the 22 minute mark. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Portu in the 25th minute, brought The White and Blues level. Real then netted once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Adnan Januzaj, 39 minutes in, to take a 2-1 lead into half time. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-1.
For Real, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ander Barrenetxea, Martin Zubimendi, Jon Bautista and Modibo Sagnan, came on for Adnan Januzaj, Alexander Isak, Ander Guevara, Carlos Fernandez and Robin Le Normand. Celta replaced Jose Fontan, Fran Beltran, Augusto Solari and Facundo Ferreyra with Aaron Martin, Denis Suarez, Nolito and Nestor Araujo.
There were bookings for Aritz Elustondo, Modibo Sagnan, Carlos Fernandez and Ander Barrenetxea from Real, and Jeison Murillo, Nolito, Hugo Mallo and Denis Suarez, for Celta.
Real will next travel to Huesca, while Celta will face Levante at home.
