Victor Sanchez del Amo got off to a great start as Real Betis manager on Friday night, leading the Seville-based side to a 2-0 win against Las Palmas.

Bruno Gonzalez and Aissa Mandi scored the goals in the win at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Betis are now up to 12th in the table ahead of this weekend’s games with 14 points, while Las Palmas, who made an impressive start to the campaign, remain ninth with 16 points.

Victor Sanchez replaced Gus Poyet during the international break, with Poyet himself only having been in the job since the summer.

The Uruguayan had won three of the opening 11 games and Betis were outside the bottom three, but the club felt a change was needed to get the best out of the squad.

Friday’s result suggests they were right and they will hope former Deportivo La Coruna coach Victor Sanchez can continue to have the same effect moving forward.
