Perez to Cristiano Ronaldo: You never beat a man anymore
The relationship between Florentino Perez and Cristiano Ronaldo has never been the most friendly ever since the Portuguese forward arrived at Real Madrid. Just a few days ago Perez refused to say Ronaldo would end his career at the club and now El Confidencial have published a comment made by Perez which annoyed Madrid's No.7 last season.
According to the newspaper, the comment came at a similar time to Barcelona's defeat to Real Sociedad at Anoeta in January. "Cristiano, you don't beat players like before, you never go past anyone. You have to beat your man," Perez reportedly said.
Ronaldo, upon hearing the words, felt deceived and decided to go to his agent, Jorge Mendes, to ask from an exit from the club because he could not understand the need for the Madrid president's comments. Nothing sat well with Ronaldo and it is understood that Sir Alex Ferguson's trip to Madrid in March was with the objective of convincing the 30-year-old to return to Manchester United.
In the end, though, he stayed at Real Madrid and his five goals against Espanyol saw him become the club's record goal scorer in La Liga, jumping ahead of Raul. Perez's comments are unlikely to have been forgotten, mind.
