LaLiga could go behind closed doors and could even be suspended, as has happened in Italy

The Spanish government has recommended that LaLiga goes behind closed doors this weekend as coronavirus continues to spread across Europe.

LaLiga are weighing up what to do and are also working on finding alternative dates in the event that the competition has to be suspended for a number of weeks -- as has happened in Italy.

El Transistor, the Onda Cero show, has reported that the league are looking into playing games on the day of the Copa del Rey final in the case that a round of fixtures has to be postponed.

Making things difficult in Spain -- and elsewhere around the globe -- is the fact that there is a European Championships and a Copa America this summer.

In this sense, Cadena Cope report that "LaLiga already has a contingency plan to play games behind closed doors. They would play games in high-risk zones and involving teams coming from high-risk areas without fans. But La Liga doesn't want to stop the competition."

Meanwhile, it's worth highlighting that the minister for health in Spain, Salvador Illa, revealed in a news conference this week that the government have recommended all games going behind closed doors.

Serie A games in Italy were played without fans over the weekend and have now been suspended completely until April 3. Italy is at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.

As for Barcelona's Champions League game against Napoli on March 18, the most likely outcome from Tuesday's meeting between the club and local government is that the match is played behind closed doors

However, there are also doubts about whether Napoli will be allowed to travel for the fixture given the whole of Italy is now on lockdown and under severe travel restrictions
