A sex tape involving Eibar duo Sergi Enrich and Antonio Luna was leaked on Wednesday night and quickly spread via social media.
The two players were surprised by the appearance of the images, in which they appear with a young woman.
The magnitude of the story has led to the two players releasing a joint statement in which they lament the release of the video, saying they were neither conscious of nor consenting to its release.
On top of that, they apologise for its appearance and state that they understand as footballers they should be leading by example.
Here’s the statement:
“After the appearance of a video featuring sexual content, we want to manifest that it was a private and intimate recording, carried out by adults, all of whom were consenting.
“We deeply regret that it’s been leaked, something which we are not responsible for. These images have come to light without our knowledge or our consent.
“However, while we regret that this video could damage our image, we especially refret that it could damage the image of the club which we defend, the supporters and the town of Eibar.
“We are aware that as professional footballers we must lead by example at al times, especially to children, which is why we apologise if this incident has hurt anyone.
“Equally, we also want to apologise for the damage which the release of the video could do to the third person involved.
“We hope this incident has no impairment on the image of the club and of our team-mates.
“Sergi Enrich and Antonio Luna.”
