Lionel Messi's hat-trick guided Barcelona to a 5-2 win against Mallorca on Saturday as they moved back to the top of La Liga.

Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez were also on target as Barca produced a stunning 45-minute performance on the night Messi offered his sixth Ballon d'Or to the Camp Nou crowd.

Mallorca twice replied through Ante Budimir but were never really in the match at Camp Nou.

Griezmann opened the scoring with a chipped finish after a long pass from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Messi added the second with a curling strike from 25 yards.

Budimir got the away side back in the game but Barca were out of side by the break. Messi's second made it three and Suarez then scored a contender for goal of the year.

Frenkie de Jong, impressive once again, played two one-twos before feeding Suarez, who produced a sumptuous back-heel to bring Camp Nou to its feet.

Mallorca kept going and Budimir headed in their second before Messi completed his 35th hat-trick with a stunning finish from just inside the area after Suarez had set him up.

The three points moved Barca back to the top of La Liga ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference.

Next up for Ernesto Valverde's side is a trip to Inter Milan on Tuesday. The coach could decide to make a number of changes for that game with top spot already wrapped up in their Champions league group.
