The Quique Setien era at Barcelona began with a 1-0 win over Granada on Sunday with Lionel Messi scoring the only goal of the game.

Messi struck in the 76th minute to cap a fine team move after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men when German Sanchez was sent off.

Substitute Riqui Puig won the ball back near the Granada earlier and gave it to Sergio Busquets, who passed too Griezmann. The Frenchman slipped it to Arturo Vidal, who back heeled it into Messi's path to seal the three points.

The win takes Barca back to the top of La Liga, level with Real Madrid on points but ahead on goal difference.

Barca had a lot of the ball in Setien's debut but created few real chances. Ansu Fati missed one at the far post and Messi hit the side netting in the first half. The Argentine also came close with a free kick.

The pattern continued after the break but Barca had a scare when a rare Granada attack ended with Yan Etek hitting the post from distance.

Soon after, German was sent off for a second booking when he fouled Messi and Barca soon took advantage of the gaps which opened up.

Antoine Griezmann could have added a second after Messi's opener, hitting the side netting after good work from Puig, but Barca had to do with one goal.
