Madrid's defeat coupled with Barcelona's 3-0 win over Eibar saw the Catalans take the lead

Real Madrid stuttered to a surprise defeat at Mallorca (1-0) on Saturday night and are no longer La Liga leaders. Los Blancos' first loss of the season has seen them leapfrogged by Barcelona, who are top with 19 points, one ahead of Madrid.

After Barça thumped Eibar, Madrid were obliged to win at San Moix to regain the lead. With a number of players injured, Eden Hazard was also ruled out late on due to the birth of his fourth child. Things became even more complicated when Lago Junior gave Mallorca the lead. Madrid had over 80 minutes to react but were unable to. They ended the game with 10 men when Odriozola was sent off.

Barça, meanwhile, found their groove at Ipurua. Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were all on target in a fairly routine win.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid were held 1-1 at home to Valencia, allowing Granada to move into third after their 1-0 win over Osasuna on Friday night. Atletico led through a Diego Costa penalty but Valencia equalised late on thanks to a Dani Parejo free-kick.
