Abelardo's team suffered a home defeat to Real Madrid at Estadio de Mendizorroza

Madrid strolled past Alavés with a 4-1 win on Saturday at Estadio de Mendizorroza. Alavés were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-1 to Sevilla while Real Madrid were coming from consecutive wins against Athletic Bilbao and Atlético Madrid. As it stands, Alavés and Real Madrid sit 17th, (18 points) and 2nd, (40 points), in the table respectively, after 20 matches.

Real Madrid started strongly in the first half, with Casemiro opening the rout in the 15th minute. Later, Real Madrid scored again thanks to a goal from Karim Benzema in the 41st minute to establish the 2-0. Later, Real Madrid scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Eden Hazard in the 45th minute just before half-time. The score at half time was 3-0.

Alavés took the lead in the second half, with Joselu opening the scoring, 59 minutes in. Real Madrid extended the margin thanks to another goal from Karim Benzema, scoring his second goal in the 70th minute to establish the 4-1, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

For Alavés, Manu Garcia, Lucas Perez, Borja Sainz, Pere Pons and Deyverson came on for Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Luka Modric, while Madrid brought on Vinicius Junior, Alvaro Odriozola and Isco to replace Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Luka Modric.

There were bookings for Ximo Navarro, Manu Garcia, Victor Laguardia, Borja Sainz and Edgar Mendez from Alavés and Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema for Madrid.

Alavés will next travel to Getafe, while Real Madrid will face Levante at home.
