Imanol Alguacil's squad were defeated away by Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday

Atleti enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Real Sociedad at Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday. Atleti wanted to improve their league standing after a scoreless draw against Barcelona in their previous match. Real were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-0 victory against Elche. Following today's result, Atleti are currently 1st with 80 points from 36 matches, while Real sit in 5th, with 56 points from 36.

Los Colchoneros started the game well, with a goal from Yannick Carrasco at the 16 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Angel Correa, 28 minutes in to see out the first half 2-0.

Real took the lead in the second half, thanks to Igor Zubeldia finding the net, on 83 minutes and seeing the game end 2-1.

For Atleti, Joao Felix, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Renan Lodi, came on for Angel Correa, Saul Niguez and Luis Suarez. Real brought on Jon Bautista, Jon Pacheco Dozagarat, Roberto Lopez, Igor Zubeldia and Martin Merquelanz, to replace Alexander Isak, Modibo Sagnan, Nacho Monreal, Aritz Elustondo and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Real and Atleti will next play at home to Real Valladolid and Osasuna respectively.
