In a match devoid of quality and fun, an early goal from Iñigo Martinez was enough to hand Athletic a needed victory. A quick freekick, a delightful cross and some woeful defending allowed Martinez the chance to score. It was a performance and attitude reflective of what we've seen from Betis under Rubi. Even if the manager might not have given up on the team, it appears the team has given up on him.

Iñaki Williams and Raul Garcia both had chances to widen the margin but failed to do so. Fekir finally tested Simon before Betis were handed a golden chance to claim a share of the spoils. Sergio Canales, often so reliable from 12 yards, fluffed his lines and almost certainly brought an end to Rubi's time in Sevilla.
