Jordi Alba was the player chosen to speak to the media on behalf of the Spanish national team before their clash with Malta on Tuesday.

The Barca defender analysed the game against Norway. "We played a focused game. We couldn't extend our lead after the break but we were good in defence and attack. We know that Malta will go out with a lot of hope and it will be a difficult game.

"You can play better and play worse, the level was very high from the first minute. The attitude was very good, the coach asked that from us and the team responded and I think we played a great game."

On Sergio Ramos: "Sergio is an important player for club and country. He's a reference point for the people coming through. He's got a lot of personality, pulls his weight and it's a privilege to have him with the national team."

Not being called up: "It's clear that after so many years in the team, not being called up makes you think. It's more of a question for the coach but I understand he has to see a lot of players. It's a new era and my hope will always be that I am wanted to come."
