Spain and Portugal ratify agreement for 2030 World Cup bid

Luis Rubiales and Fernando Gomes, the presidents of the respective federations, put pen to paper in Lisbon

RFEF president Luis Rubiales and FPF president Fernando Gomes, ratified their agreement to bid for the 2030 World Cup together today in Lisbon. Spain and Portugal will be a contender to host the tournament.

"This agreement is an important step forward for the project of the federations, but also for the countries," said Rubiales. "Football, the sport, is a wonderful tool to inject strength and will to overcome in these moments of great difficulty.

"Few things generate more hope than the chance to organise a World Cup and we can't think of a better partner than Portugal. We go hand in hand with the Portuguese federation."

Spain face Portugal in a friendly on Wednesday night in Lisbon.
