This action has been taken in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus virus across the country

The Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) and La Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), in agreement with the AFE (Player's Association), have decided to postpone all matches in LaLiga and LaLiga 2 in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in Spain.

This comes into effect immediately and includes both Mallorca-Barça and Eibar-Real Madrid.

Preventions are in place all over the world, in various sporting competitions and events, as everyone looks to prevent the coronavirus from spreading any quicker than it already is.

Until today the plan was for the next two weeks of matches to be played behind closed doors. In terms of European competitions, Valencia-Atalanta was played in an empty stadium, as was PSG-Dortmund, but Liverpool-Atletico Madrid went ahead with supporters in attendance. Barça-Napoli, as things stand, is expected to be played behind closed doors.

Getafe and Sevilla's Europa League matches, against Inter and Roma respectively, have already been postponed and Serie A is on lockdown after Juventus player Daniele Rugani tested positive for the virus.

FC Barcelona must now wait and see what UEFA will do in regards to the European competitions going forward.

GLOBAL REPERCUSSIONS

This also has global repercussions as clubs wait and see what FIFA would do in regards to South American countries currently in lockdown. For Barça this impacts Leo Messi, Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo.

FC Barcelona were expected to face Mallorca on Saturday before Leganes came to the Camp Nou on the 22nd March. Real Madrid will miss two home matches against Eibar (13th) and Valencia (21st).
