The former Barca midfielder joined Getafe for 5m euros

Carles Alena has signed for Getafe for five seasons and says he’s got a lot of hope for the project in Madrid with Michel as coach. The former Barca cantera player was on loan there last season and now has moved permanently.

“I had six spectacular months at Getafe, where I felt really comfortable. I saw them as a family, that’s what I was looking for, and the project with the new coach excited me after I spoke to him. The excitement is big for Michel’s project.”

Last season Alena, 23, operated under Jose Bordalas, playing 22 games, 15 as a starter and scored two goals.

“Everyone’s got a different idea,” said Alena. “I’ll be grateful for life to Bordalas because he changed the way I live football and I wish him the best because he helped me improve a lot. In fact, it’s thanks to him I’m here again.”

On leaving Barca, his boyhood club, Alena added: “I wanted stability, I see myself here for many years. It’s true it’s never easy to leave your home but I know the world I’m in. I’ve been lucky to play at Barca, to be able to play in the first team with world class players, but that’s done now and I wish them the best.”
