Papa Francisco meets Chapecoense
The squad and directors posed with Pope Francis after an audience in St. Peter's Square
The delegation from Chapecoense gave the Pope a football in the club's colours
Pope Francis received players and officials from Chapecoense, the Brazilian club devastated by an air crash in November last year, after the general audience in St. Peter’s Square.
The Pope met the new squad as well as some relatives of the players and directors who died in the crash and blessed some photos they had brought with them.
The club’s delegation was made up of 80 people and presented the Pope with a football in the club’s colours of white and green before posing for a commemorative photograph.
The Brazilian club are in Rome to play a friendly against Roma. Profits from the game will go to charities in Brazil.
