The German striker is set to move to Chelsea instead for 60 million

Timo Werner will not be a Liverpool player because the coronavirus has forced them to change their plans in the transfer market. Jurgen Klopp has courted the German international and had convinced him to join him at Anfield -- but it will not be possible this summer.

The Liverpool coach even called Werner to explain the reasons why not, according to The Mirror, which were purely economic and not to do with the 24-year-old's ability.

Klopp told the RB Leipzig man that Liverpool were pulling out of the race because the could not pay his 60 million release clause, which is active until June 30. The Reds had planned to pay it, but the coronavirus crisis means that they have had to have a rethink.

Chelsea swoop

Given that, Werner has listened to other offers and, according to Sport Bild, has opted for Chelsea, who can sign again following a transfer ban from UEFA.

Everything suggests Werner will move to Stamford Bridge next season, with the Blues prepared to make him their second signing of the summer following confirmation of a move for Ajax's Hakim Ziyech (27 years old) worth 40 million euros.
