Benfica deny reports they have signed Edinson Cavani
The club felt forced into releasing an official statement denying they have agreed terms with Cavani
Benfica have released an official statement to deny reports they've signed Edinson Cavani. Speculation the former PSG frontman was joining the club has sent social media into meltdown and Benfica felt it was necessary to respond.
The reports doing the rounds claimed Cavani had penned a deal worth €5m per season. However, Benfica didn't waste time in shooting down those claims.
"Benfica deny various false reports from various press organisations about the club's interest in players without foundation. One story that stands out is the club's president, Luis Felipe Vieria, supposedly being involved in negotiations with Edison Cavani. This story is completely false."
