Alarm bells at PSG as Neymar and Mbappe injured on same night
The French champions are sweating on the fitness of their two star players
Tuesday was a tough night for Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. Minutes after Neymar was taken off injured in Brazil's game against Cameroon, Kylian Mbappe was forced off of France's win over Uruguay.
Mbappe was replaced after 30 minutes fafter trying to dripple around goalkeeper Campaña. The keeper cut the ball out with his foot and the French forward tumbled to the ground, knocking his right shoulder.
The alarms sounded immediately as the French medical team rushed on to the pitch. Mbappe tried to return to the game but lasted less than a minute before being asked to be replaced.
Neymar, the first to drop
Neymar Jr had to be taken off in the eighth minute of Brazil's friendly against Cameroon at MK Stadium in England. The forward was injured after attempting a shot, with what appeared to be a groin injury.
It was quickly established that the former Barça player could not continue. Rather than taking risks, he was taken off, replaced by Everton player Richarlison.
Champions League danger
PSG will not wait for the results of the tests which both players will undergo to determine the extent of their injury problems.
The Ligue 1 leaders return to action this weekend against Toulouse but it's their following game, against Liverpool in the Champions League, which they will be most concerned about. With PSG, Liverpool and Napoli in a scarp for the top two spots and a place in the last 16, it's a crucial fixture.
