Sprinter Salma Paralluelo confirms Villarreal exit ahead of Barça move
She will also leave athletics to pursue a career in football at Camp Nou
Salma Paralluelo, the sprinter and footballer, announced on Sunday that she will leave Villarreal this summer, the club she has played for during the last three seasons.
"I say goodbye to the team that has allowed me to grow throughout the last three years," she wrote. "I only have words of gratitude and pride towards the people that form part of this club and gave me a chance, It fills me with tears to have to leave. I have found a family here. Thanks for giving me everything."
Paralluelo, 18, will leave athletics as well as Villarreal in order to sign for FC Barcelona, as revealed by SPORT earlier this week.
She was called up by Spain for this summer's Euro 2022 but had to pull out through injury in the end.
As a footballer, she became a world and European champion with Spain U17s, while in athletics she set national records in her age group for 400m hurdles and indoor 400m.
