Lluis Cortes will not continue as coach of Barça's women's team

Barcelona are in the market for a new coach after the treble-winner stepped down

As revealed exclusively by SPORT a few days ago, despite having won the treble in an historic season for Barcelona's women's team, Lluis Cortes will leave his role as coach.

Ahead of the final game of the season on Sunday against Eibar, Cortes informed the players of his decision. The wear and tear of day-to-day life at the club has taken its toll and differences have emerged between the coach and his players.

Cortes and the players felt there was no other possible solution in the end and made as much known to the club's board. On Sunday, the coach said that he would step aside.

Sporting and non-sporting problems have emerged following a season marked by excellence but also squashed in due to the shortened coronavirus calendar.

Cortes led Barça to a first Champions League trophy in their history and they also won the Copa de la Reina and the league to complete the treble.
