Barcelona Femeni 4-0 Chelsea: Queens of Europe after easy rout

There was some luck about the first two but overall it was well deserved

Barcelona Femeni romped to a Champions League final victory over Chelsea to win the competition for the first time in their history.

It was a comfortable triumph in Sweden started with an own goal from Melanie Leupolz in the first minute. Lieke Martens struck the crossbar from a distance and Chelsea’s defence never recovered and in a farcical patch of play one Blues defender slammed the ball into their own net off Melanie Leupolz.

The second came from the penalty spot after Jenni Hermoso went down softly in the area and Alexia Putellas stuck it away.

If there was luck in the first two, there wasn’t about the next.

Aitana Bonmati made it three after a fine pass from Alexia, and then Caroline Graham Hansen slotted home from close range after a great run by Martens.

The second half was a washout with little to write home about, bar Oshaola’s late fifth which was ruled out for offside. Too comfortable for the Catalans.

Chelsea were done, and Barca’s job was done too. Champions!
