Ada Hegerberg: There was football before FC Barcelona
The Lyon striker made a point about her potential UCL final opponents
Olympique Lyon women’s forward Ada Hegerberg has sent out a harsh message to FC Barcelona in an interview with L’Equipe. She was the first women’s Ballon d’Or winner and made it clear that “there was football before Barcelona” and “it was played here for years.”
The Norwegian was referring to the boom we’ve seen in recent weeks with two world record attendances beaten at Camp Nou.
Lyon were the best team in the women’s game for many years and won five consecutive Champions Leagues, but Barcelona beat them to the trophy last season.
“At Lyon we know it’s hard to win a title again after winning it once, we won it five times,” she said. “We have to win again to get our place back in world football.”
After beating PSG 3-2 in the semi-final first leg, she thinks it could be soon. “We have the chance to do it this season.”
She also pointed out: “We have never lost against Barca.” Lyon beat Barca comfortably in the 2019 final.
