Victor Barbera, a bad situation heading towards a difficult end
The striker was left out of the B team's game entirely and is not staying
Víctor Barbera will not have an easy final stretch of the season. Since the club became aware that he was not going to renew his contract with the club and that his destination -not officially confirmed- would be Club Brugge for next season, the top scorer of the reserve team has been gradually losing prominence until Sunday, against Atlético Baleares, he was not even called up.
Rafa Marquez assured at the end of the match that Barbera had not been included in the list due to a technical decision. Angel Alarcon was, the club's bet, satisfied because in his case he did decide to renew and did so until 2025, and this Sunday he got a few minutes against the Balearic team.
It was only his second time this season with Barça Atlètic -the first time, last September against Real Murcia, he played 7 minutes-, but this time it seems that it will not be the last and he will have more chances with Marquez's team until the end of the season... when he is not in the first team set-up.
Until now, Alarcon had returned to the youth team when Xavi Hernandez had not called him up and it was striking that he did not participate with Barça Atlètic, a player who was already playing for the 'seniors'.
The decision not to renew his contract cost Barbera the chance to play for the first team and it was Angel Alarcon, a winger converted into a centre forward, who was able to fulfill a dream that he is making the most of.
Despite all this, Márquez continued to field Barbera in the Barça Atlètic team and his goals were very useful for them. But the trend has changed in recent weeks, with Barbera relegated to the bench and, in the last game, to the stands at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Despite not playing with the reserve team, in the afternoon he also did not strengthen the Juvenil A, as he had done the previous week in Zaragoza to snatch the lead from the Aragonese side (0-1). Barbera may not have any more minutes this season in any of the Barca youth teams.
He has only started one of the last six games (he missed one due to suspension and another because he was with Spain U19), is still Barça Atletic's top scorer with eight goals (plus seven in the UEFA Youth League). He is closely followed by Estanis Pedrola, who has 7.
