Garcia Pimienta will be presented as the team's new coach on Wednesday

Barcelona have announced that they have sacked Gerard Lopez as coach of Barcelona B following the team's disastrous results which have taken them to the brink of relegation back to the Segunda Division B.

Francisco Javier Garica Pimienta, the coach of the Juvenil A team which won the Youth League, will take charge of the team, at least until the end of the season, and will be officially presented at a press conference later today.

Gerard Lopez's credit at Barça B ran out after two bad defeats, against Huesca and Rayo Vallecano, leading to the team's directors losing faith in the former Barcelona, Monaco and Espanyol player.

The people responsible for managing Barça B are Jose Mari Bakero and Guillermo Amor, while Pep Segura has the most responsibility for the team.

All three men returned from Nyon feeling happpy after Barça conquered the UEFA Youth League but at the same time they were feeling enormously worried by the situation of the reserve team.

In Switzerland they spoke for a long time about Barça B's situation and yesterday they had more conversations. Their analysis was profound and the need for change has made them avoid all other considerations and go for a change of coach.

Barça B are currently 20th in the Liga 123, occupying the final relegation place, and are two points adrift of safety. They have six 'finals' left to try and avoid relegation back to the Segunda Division B.
