Barcelona won their first youth league for four years but it doesn't necessarily mean success

On April 14, 2014, Barcelona won the first edition of the UEFA Youth League, effectively the Champions League for young players. The team led by Jordi Vinyals and Pep Munoz (currently coaching in China's second division) beat Benfica 3-0, the same as Garcia Pimienta and Pau Marti's side beat Chelsea in this year's final.

Munir scored two and Rodrigo Tarin the other. It was a good looking generation, on a team and individual level. Rodrigo Tarin is currently at Barca B, but Gerard Lopez doesn;t count on him, unfairly. The other player still at the club is Sergi Palencia, who didn't play in this final but is currently captain of the B team.

The one player who made it at a high level in Spain is Munir, currently on loan at Alaves, with nine league goals.

Among the others are Onana, goalkeeping for Ajax, while Jose Aurelio Suarez is at Girona. There are various in academies, Xavier Quintillà (Villarreal); Roger Riera, the captain that day, (Villarreal); Alex Corredera (Almería) and Kaptoum (Betis).

Other cases to highlight are Maxi Rolon, in Coquimbo, Chile Division 1B, and Juan Manuel Garcia Rey, in Liverpool's reserves. A good generation who weren't able to make it at Barca... hopefully some of the new generation can.
