Barça B's promotion dream ended after penalty shootout defeat to UCAM Murcia

Rey Manaj scored twice but a late Murcia leveller took the game to extra time and penalties

Not even two goals from Rey Manaj and four penalty saves from Iñaki Peña could keep Barcelona B's promotion hopes alive on Sunday.

They came from behind to lead UCAM Murcia 2-1 but the game ended 2-2 and Barça lost 5-4 after an intense, 18-penalty shoot out in Extramadura.

Alberto Fernández gave Murcia a 24th-minute lead but a penalty from Manaj and a wonder goal from the same player gave Garcia Pimienta's side the lead.

However, there was a late twist when Xemi scored in the final 10 minutes to make it 2-2 and take the game to extra time.

The match eventually went to penalties, with Peña saving four to give Barça B a real chance of progress but they missed too many, with Konrad, Peque, Manaj, Busquets and Mingo all missing.

Murcia progress to the playoff final and a shot at reaching the second division, while Barça will have to make do with being part of the Primera RFEF, the new 40-team, two division third tier of Spanish football.
