Argentina remain unbeaten in qualifying for the World Cup after big win in Peru

Nico Gonzalez and Lautaro Martínez were on target for Argentina as they bounced back from drawing with Paraguay by winning 2-0 in Peru on Tuesday.

Lionel Scaloni got the reaction he wanted from his side as Argentina made it three wins from four games in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With 10 points from their four qualifiers, they sit second in the group, behind leaders Brazil, who have won all four of their games so far.

Lionel Messi is smiling again when he wears the Argentina shirt, too. That seemed almost impossible at one point in his career but his time with the national team has become a refuge from the chaos in Barcelona.

Messi didn't score against Peru but played well, sacrificing himself for the team, with first-half goals from Gonzalez and Lautaro wrapping up the three points as Argentina won in Lima for the first time in 16 years.

Argentina are not in action again until March, when they have two tough qualifiers, against Luis Suarez's Uruguay and Neymar's Brazil.
