Colombia plane crash: Atletico Nacional offers Copa Sudamericana to Chapecoense

Brazilian fans mourned at their stadium for the players that lost their lives on the way to Colombia to face Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana final

Colombian side Atletico Nacional have asked that Brazilian side Chapecoense be awarded the Copa Sudamericana after the tragic plane crash that killed most of their squad ahead of the final on Wednesday.

The latest information shows that 75 people on the flight died and six survived in the horrendous air disaster.

Barcelona and Real Madrid were among the clubs to pay tribute with a moment of silence in training.

Brazilian football has reacted by asking that Chapecoense not be relegated for the next three years and be allowed to loan players for free.

Their fans mourned at their stadium for the players that lost their lives on the way to Colombia to face Nacional.

A statement from Atletico read: "Nacional deeply regrets and sympathises with Chapecoense because of the accident, and expects information from the authorities.

"Atletico Nacional invites Conmebol to give the Copa Sudamericana to Chapecoense to honour their great loss, and in posthumous homage to the victims of the fatal accident.

"For our part, and forever, Chapecoense are champions of the Copa Sudamericana."
