The Denmark midfielder requires the device after Saturday's scare against Finland

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen will be fitted with a heart-starting device (ICD) after collapsing during his country's Euro 2020 opener against Finland last weekend.

Eriksen went over just before half-time and required CPR on the pitch before being translated to a hospital close to the stadium in Copenhagen.

Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen revealed on Thursday the next step for the Inter Milan star following tests in the last few days.

"After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter)," Boesen said. "This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

"Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

"We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time."

Denmark's game against Finland resumed two hours after Eriksen's cardiac arrest. They went on to lose 1-0. They face Belgium in their second game on Thursday.
