The move comes after the played their game against Atletico this week at RCDE Stadium

After the success of playing Monday's league game against Atletico Madrid in front of over 20,000 fans at the RCDE Stadium, Espanyol have decided to increase their investment in their women's team. According to the club's general director, Roger Guasch, the Pericos will increase the players' salaries by 30 percent next season.

Guasch called the decision to play the game at the RCDE Stadium "a total success" as the club broke the attendance record for a women's game in Catalonia. Therefore, they've decided to do it again. "Next season, we will play two games at the stadium," Guasch explained. "One in the first half of the season and one in the second half."

However, the biggest announcement came later: "Women's football is here to stay. That's a fact. It's time to back it. Espanyol want to be different, there will be a 30 percent increase of the salaries."

The current salaries among the players are different, depending on how long they have been at the club. It varies between €300-€400 a week up to around €1,000. The investment next season will hopefully allow them to make a big step forward.
