Over 20,000 fans attended Monday's game vs. Atletico in Cornella

The pre-match preditions were met on Monday as Espanyol broke the attendance record for a women's game in Catalonia.

Their league game against Atletico Madrid at the RCDE Stadium was attended by 20,615 supporters, breaking the record previously held by FC Barcelona (12,178 at Barça's game vs. Lyon at the Mini Estadi).

It was the first time Espanyol have moved a women's game to their main stadium and the fans turned up in numbers, making it a resounding success.

Atletico won the game 1-0, though, to remain on track for the league title. They're three points clear of Barça with just two games to play. Barça edge the head-to-head record, though, in the event both sides finish on level points.

Just last month, Atletico broke the attendance world record for a women's club game. There were 60,739 people at the Wanda Metropolitano to see them lose 2-0 to Barça.
