The man who ruled the roost between 2003-10 is back in business

Joan Laporta i Estruch will be Barcelona’s president for the next six years. He earned an historic victory in the elections this Sunday, with 30,184 votes (54.28 per cent). Font was second on 16,679 votes (29.99 per cent) and Freixa third on 4,769 votes (8.58 per cent).

More people voted in these elections than in any other in the club’s history bar 2010, including 20,000 plus voting by mail for the first time because of the pandemic.

Laporta took charge of the club between 2003-10, winning the sextuple in 2009 with Pep Guardiola as manager.

His main tasks will be helping the club solve their financial crisis and trying to keep star player Lionel Messi, whose contract expires in June.

Messi was among various Barca players who voted in the elections on Sunday.
